THURSDAY, JULY 10, 2014 “MAKE A GLAD FATHER” Good morning my dear friend. Welcome again to Wisdom Speaks Daily Devotional. Today the voice of Wisdom comes to us from the Book of Proverbs chapter 10 verse 1: A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is the grief of his mother. [NKJV] The coach plays a vital role in the victory or defeat of his team. His game plan determines the team’s victory or defeat. That is the reason why when a team wins they celebrate their coach, raising him shoulder high and showing him to the world. And when they are defeated, it hurts the coach most. God is our Father-Coach and He is hurt when we fail in any match in the game of life. As a good coach He according to “His divine power has given to us ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2Peter 1:3-4) In Christ Jesus God our Father-Coach has soundly defeated Satan’s sin-team in the body of His flesh and He gives us instructions through His Word and Spirit on how we can constantly walk in that settled and perfected victory whenever we are engaged in a match (temptations, tests and trials) of this life. If we heed His words and the voice of His Spirit we overcome whatever temptations, tests or trials of this life we might be confronted with, but if we are deaf or disobedient to His wise instructions, playing the game our own way, we lose the match. And when we lose or are defeated in any match, our Father-Coach feels the pain of our loss than we ourselves. Consider the following words of lamentation spoken by Jehovah God when Israel failed to win their battles against sin and were plunged into excruciating pains and exile: “Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea. Your descendants also would have been like the sand, and the offspring of your body like the grains of sand; his name would not have been cut off nor destroyed from before Me.’” (Isaiah 48:17-19) So do not think in your little carnal mind that it is you only who feels the pains and embarrassments of your defeats and failures in life—God your Father-Coach feels it too, even more. God has no pleasure at all in your failure or defeat. But you can avoid these unpleasant experiences by heeding God’s commandments. If you do, you will not only make life beautiful for yourself; you will also make your God and Father-Coach very happy and proud of you. God looks forward to your victory celebration (testimony) where you lift Him high on your praise as your Helper. Wouldn’t you really like to do that? PRAYER: O Lord, I praise You because You have given to me all things I need to triumph in the game of life. I receive fresh and more grace to heed Your instructions and commandments that never fail to give the victory. Amen.
