THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2014 DEVOTION THEME: TRUST NO MAN! KEY TEXT: Jer. 17:5 (Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD) - KJV. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Three days ago, I went and bought rice from an old and noble-looking woman from who I usually buy rice at the business hub of Accra. After that I went to buy cooking oil from a lady nearby and she drew my attention to the fact that the bag containing the rice has been tampered with and so I returned it and went to buy from one of the stores the lady told me that they sell genuine and original rice. I was shocked! Genesis 6:6 says for the sinful nature of the people in the days of Noah, God regretted for creating man, because man is bad! God says trust no man at His expense, because this is a curse. However, we often trust people rather than God and bear the unpleasant repercussions and ramifications bitterly. We often ignore Gods ways and word and obey human sophistries, concepts, ideologies, theories, doctrines, tenets etc. For instance, we trust in the interest rates and dividend policies of banks and corporate bodies and so invest in them but fail to pay our tithes and offerings so as to be blessed and when our investments fail then we remember God. Human help, promises and support usually come with overt and covert conditionalities that benefit the giver more than the beneficiary. For instance, it is rare and uncommon for somebody to support you for you to become greater than the one helping you and if it happens, then the person did not foresee or know it. Your friend this morning can become your enemy this evening. Man can fail to honour his promise to you or take back his help to you. Also, man is limited by death, ill-health, financial forces etc and so cannot be depended upon. Therefore put your trust in only God and deal cautiously with man! GOOD MORNING!!!
