THURSDAY, Sept. 11.........Its a hot morning in Los Angeles and its an even hotter morning down here at HOBLA Headquarters where we are preparing for our 1st of 4 battles to decide just WHO will become the HOBLAs very first Final 4. Weve promised you a big opening match and dare I say, were about to deliver. Please remember......We are not deciding who is a better act. We have already decided that these are 8 amazing acts....Instead, ask yourself, If I could magically live one last night at the HOBLA with all of my former colleagues, which show would I rather work? That is who you should vote for. OUR FIRST CONTESTANT!..........James Joseph Brown, Jr. once stated that his goal was to give people more than what they came for — make them tired, cause thats what they came for. A trademark feature of Browns stage shows, usually during the song Please, Please, Please, involved Brown dropping to his knees while clutching the microphone stand in his hands, prompting the shows longtime MC, Danny Ray, to come out, drape a cape over Browns shoulders and escort him off the stage after he had worked himself to exhaustion during his performance. As Brown was escorted off the stage by the MC, Browns backing singers, continued singing the background vocals Please, please dont go-oh-oh. Brown would then shake off the cape and stagger back to the microphone to perform an encore. Will HOBLA ask Mr. Brown to Please, please dont go-oh-oh as well????...... OUR SECOND CONTESTANTS........ created a sound that blended punk, blues, country and rockabilly...... If the world were fair, there would be statues of Mike Ness and Jonny 2 Bags Wickersham outside the front of HOBLA...... they did the impossible......they sold out strings of shows at HOBLA, and then they would drive over to HOB-Anaheim and sell out a string of shows there..... and then BACK to HOBLA to sell out more shows there. Their fanatical crowd would scream along the lyrics with the heavily tattooed growler Ness........ Ball and Chain, Story of My Life, Mommys Little Monster.......and of course, the greatest version of a Johnny Cash song ever performed, Ring of Fire. But were those legendary shows enough to defeat The Godfather of Soul? BLUES BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!!! It is time to pick our FINAL FOUR starting RIGHT now!!!!!!! Will it be Mr. James Brown or Social Distortion????
