THURSDAY TEMPO BY JULIUS MUTHONI …YOU ARE PROBABLY RIGHT? Ever thought you are not good enough for it and unsure of your purpose in life? Thinking that you are always a victim of circumstances? Comparing yourself with others? CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS! A nettle plant can never produce corns as a corn plant can never produce nettle. Simply, bad thoughts can never produce good actions. It’s only good thought that produce good actions. The first step to changing a negative mentality/attitude is accepting you are never a victim of circumstances and that you only create your own reality. Many are the childhood talks and comments made by either our parents or relatives regarding different aspects of life that have derailed our full development and affected our esteems. For example, ‘Why don’t you behave like your friend?’, ‘Don’t ever do that again!’ e.t.c. In addition, the societal gloom on crime, economic decline and immorality will easily find you in the downward spiral movement no doubt. If this is where you are, time is gone. Focus on the change you can make. Change is a process: 1. Thoughts; Seek to determine the level and quality of your thoughts, both the positive and the negative as they both determine the latter thoughts. Understand your focus in life and the power you give to it. Once you are aware of your thoughts and their impact in you, begin to affirm the changes that you would wish to make; only will you find yourself in charge of your destiny ready to move and make things happen. On the onset of mind stretch, it never goes back to its original position. Your brain is like an iceberg; we use only the tips and leave the bulk capacity submerged and unexplored. The brain has both the left and the right hemispheres where the left manages the verbal, logical and rational functions while the right handles the instinctive, creative and visual abilities. Our current world has forced us to overwhelm the left hemisphere and neglect our imaginative side. Close monitoring of our thoughts changes our emotional response that in correspondence affects our behavior. Changing ones behavior definitely enables you achieve different results. Rare affirmation like; ‘I can do’, ‘I will achieve that’, become very evident even though often situations will push you to the wall. Always repeat these affirmations on regular basis. Examine the words you use replacing the negative with the positive, any discouraging words with the positive ones. Take any problem as a challenge to face.* Whether you think you can or cannot, you are probably right! Join me next Thursday as we focus on second bit of this change of thought. From Julius Muthoni.
