TIAMZON COUPLE ARRESTS TO LEAD NEW ROUNDS OF PEACE TALKS WITH NDF - CASTELO Rep. Winston Winnie Castelo (Liberal Party, 2nd District of Quezon City) today urged the Aquino administration to immediately resume the stalled negotiations for peace settlement with the National Democratic Front (NDF) after AFP and PNP forces nabbed Benito and Wilma Tiamzon in Carcar, Cebu on Saturday afternoon. Benito is in the “Big Five” fugitive list alongside fellow NPA leader Jorge Madlos, while Wilma Tiamzon works as the secretary general of the CPP/NPA. According to Castelo, The arrest of the two leaders should not impede the odds to settle the existing political issues with the government, Castelo was quoted saying “The core issue right now is how we get sovereignty over these rebel group without compromising the security of our people. Thats not to say settlements arent important. Thats to say if we solve those two problems, the political issue will be resolved said Castelo. Castelo further said “New proposals come into play to revive talks with these rebels. The representatives need to spend a significant amount of time trying to narrow the differences between the two sides.”#
