TIL that in China they celebrate an Anti-Valentines Day called, Singles Day where individuals who are sans SOs (significant others) will get together and celebrate their collective singledom. It takes place on 1 1 / 1 1 (today!) and its also the equivalent of Americas Black Friday... because who doesnt like filling the gaping hole of loneliness in your life by buying stuff we dont need online!!? Although I suppose it is somewhat comforting to know that *retail therapy* is an internationally occurring form of escapism and that it happens in less isolated places than my darkened bedroom... a cold glass of scotch clutched by my non-mouse-operating hand, chilled not only by the whiskey stones but also by the absence of love in my life... INSTANT CHECK-OUT??! /cries into whiskey ONE-CLICK PLEASE!! At least I know this Amazon Prime package will produce itself in 2 days NO MATTER WHAT!! I find that there is comfort in the constant. Knowing makes us feel safe. And for some, that is enough... Right now, Im trying to figure out how to transition this into a discourse on the virtues of being a Producer vs. being a Consumer. Im not as good a writer as I wish I were so I made a commitment to start practicing. My current stage of professional development necessitates that I be able to consistently produce high-quality copy, so when I woke up this morning and saw this Mashable post that piqued my interest, I decided to seize the opportunity and just start writing. Habits today lead to results tomorrow. Instead of buying more stuff, why not invest in yourself instead? Instead of accepting what is presented to you, why not aspire to create something of personal value and use it to inspire others? Get a hobby. Find your passion. Produce something. Improve upon it. Share it with the world. I wanted to learn how to design so I taught myself how to use Adobe Illustrator. TODAY my first order of shirts will be delivered in the mail, 200 shirts, 4 different designs, the package weighing in at 70 lbs and being shipped from LA (the same manufacturer does a lot of work for Johnny Cupcakes). Its a pretty big milestone for me, personally, and the event is as much symbolic as it definite and actual. It is the manifestation of the hundreds of hours I spent: pondering, hoping, dreaming and wishing, trying to find the courage to take the leap. I bow my head to honor all of those brain cycles whose lifespans have transpired for the pursuit of this one goal: the manifestation of a dream into the physical world. Its a very small step in the grand scheme of things, just a drop in the bucket, and I know that my work has just begun. But the thing that makes my hands tremble as I type out this post because I can proudly say that its MY WORK. My company motto: Inspire Positive Action (coincidentally IPAs are also my favorite type of beer!) This is by no means a press announcement, I started out just wanting to practice my writing skills, but sometimes putting your words on (e)paper helps to connect the (e)dots. Please keep us on your radar, as we will be launching in the next few weeks! I will be producing goods and content that I am confident you will enjoy and appreciate. Good Vibes and Fresh Ideas!
