TIP FOR BEGINNERS: ( Light, Magnificatiom, Clarity/DOF, Safety) If you have a macro lens, keep practicing and dont give up. Some cheap ways to move to the NEXT STEP. LIGHT: make your own diffuser as shown here by previous members and leverage on your flash or even fixed pop-up flash. Will make a huge difference to your images. Some have used a PRINGLE container and adapted it to suit. Many ways , just search DIY Diffuser on google. Keep an eye on the ISO as you may have to change/adjust from 100 to between 400 depending in the light available MAGNIFICATION: there many cheap ways to increase magnification, use non auto extension tubes and/or a cheap $5-$10 dollar REVERSE adapter ( if your camera and lens support this). You have heard and seen a lot of macro users worldwide talk about the RAYNOX lens. There are many other cheaper ones on the market BUT the RAYNOX 250 in my humble opinion is the best and cheapest option. It may be out of the reach for some $100 on ebay but if you are able to afford one you will be amazed by the results. Form your own macro group in your location and if you can go out together as small group you will have great fun searching and photographing insects . If you notice someone who cannot afford and has a desire to learn , if you can lend them your Raynox to try out so they get a feel of the magnification. I realise this is not always possible. CLARITY AND DOF When you shoot and the insect is not moving, try and position yourself to block any wind/breeze, then take MULTIPLE shots , even 2-3 shots at different spots. start with closest , then move in fractionally and take next shot n repeat. SAFETY Be aware of your surroundings. It is so easy to be consumed by what you are doing and either put yourself and health at risk. I was shooting landscape in Australia in winter and was standing on a rock, it was windy and the waves were low, but out of the blue a huge wave came so quickly and took me off the rock and I fell. Luckily I was not hurt and I saved my camera :-). So dress appropriately, for example, in summer here, lots of poisonous snakes so proper boots and long pants. If you shoot at night , make sure you go with a friend or two,
