TIP OF THE FEDORA to BIG JOE WILLIAMS who died Dec. 17th, 1982. Singer-songwriter born in Crawford, Mississippi, he was unique in that he played a 9 string guitar. His guitar was heavily modified-he added a rudimentary electric pickup, whose wires coiled over the top of his guitar. He also added 3 extra strings, creating unison pairs for the first, second & fourth strings. He performed for 4 decades as he was born in 1903.
