‘TIS THE SEASON FOR LISTS: Occidental College professor and longtime Reliquarian, Peter Dreier, offers his list of 50 favorite books. “This is not a ‘50 best books of 2014’ list,” Dreier notes in his Huffington Post piece. “It is my personal and idiosyncratic list of books I found interesting and/or fun to read (or in a few cases, re-read) and that I think others will enjoy, too. Some of these books were published in 2013 or even 2012 but I just got around to reading them this year. They include fiction and non-fiction. They cover the gamut, including books about sports, sociology, history, politics, and other topics, including quite a few biographies and autobiographies.” A number of baseball books made the cut, including Paul Dickson’s “Bill Veeck: Baseball’s Greatest Maverick.” Incidentally, Dreier’s “The 100 Greatest Americans of the 20th Century: A Social Justice Hall of Fame” certainly deserves a place on any list of important books to include in your personal library. huffingtonpost/peter-dreier/my-50-favorite-books-of-2_b_6371442.html.
