The Mayor, City Council Members have the duty and responsibility to end the sick, perverse, and unspeakable treatment of animals that has been allowed to fester and continue at Memphis Animal Control. Sunday, July 13th, at 2:00 pm Corner of Union Ave & Cooper St Memphis, Tennessee S.O.S. Memphis (Save Our Shelter) sosmemphis This sort of sadistic behavior is nothing new for Memphis. YOUR shelter...and YOUR city has a long and nasty history for a poorly-run, poorly-managed shelter full of workers who should be fired. It would not exist if any one of you cared enough to act. Your non-action is a disgrace. THE ARTICLE BELOW IS LONG BUT I URGE ALL TO READ AND THEN JOIN THE PROTEST. I have extracted some passages to show the type of sociopathic behavior that is allowed here. Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies launched a raid on Memphis Animal Services. This raid resulted in sixteen felony counts of animal cruelty and revealed appalling conditions at MAS. Volunteers from both ASPCA and the American Humane Association came to Memphis to evaluate the animals (more than 200 dogs and cats) at the shelter. Upon inspection the team found: many malnourished animals with little food or water; sick animals housed with animals that were not sick; animals that were being quarantined for rabies housed with the general population; vicious dogs housed with docile dogs; and deplorable conditions in the kennels. A number of dogs – at least three – had been starved to the point where they died or euthanization was necessary. AND THIS ABOUT A DOG BRUTALLY KILLED BE A SHELTER WORKER. Now you want to act stupid? former shelter worker Archie Elliott III said to the Chow as he pulled the leashed animal into the euthanizing room. I know how to take care of this. This is my sedation. Elliott then lifted the dog off the ground and held the choking animal over a sink as it urinated and defecated while gasping for air, according to court papers. Technician Frank Lightfoot Jr. said to Elliott, I didnt know you did it like that, and then injected the fatal solution into the dogs heart without using any sedation MAS veterinarian Dr. Rebecca Coleman was written up by the city for “cruel and inhumane treatment” and being “incompetent” and “unprofessional”. In the fall of 2012, a five month puppy arrived at the shelter with an embedded collar. Even though Dr. Coleman is on record as stating “Rounds are done – hopefully more than once a day, but at least once a day – doing health surveillance, looking for issues that may have been overlooked by technicians or the individuals caring for the animals”, the puppy was not treated for 4 days. Coleman was the only veterinarian on duty the week the dog arrived. After 4 days, the puppy finally received medical attention for a collar ingrown into the neck with a foul odor. It was so bad that not all of it could be removed; the clasp was left inside the dog because tissue had grown in. Two days after treatment the dog was euthanized to ease its suffering. No other action was taken regarding this incident. MAS IS A HELL-HOLE RUN BY MORAL CRETINS. Voice your protest today
