TO: ALL HONORABLE MEMBERS OF THE ARIZONA HOUSE COMMITTEE RE: PASSAGE OF SCR 1006 AND SB 1211 AND 1212 83. 83 Mexican gray wolves in all of the southwest. Considerably less of these wolves live in Arizona. The rarest mammal in all of North America – and some Senate Arizona lawmakers with Tea-party affiliation and ties to the Koch Brothers advocate to place the nails in the coffin on the Mexican gray wolf by the passage of SCR 1006 and SB 1211 and 1212. Should this occur, it will accomplish two things: doom the USFW Service’s attempts at Mexican gray wolf recovery in the southwest, which has been stalled out anyway due to an outdated recovery plan and their repeated wolf “control” measures “…knocking the population down” (mexicanwolves.org/index.php/brush-with-extinction). Second, it will likely result in reducing the Mexican gray wolf population to such a point that they would be considered a “relic” population – meaning that there would be too few to successfully breed and grow their numbers, as well as to have any positive impact in their environment i.e. controlling prey species in any meaningful way. Here’s another number – 59,412. That’s the number of supporters (“likes”) that the “Mexican Gray Wolves” Facebook page has, with 19,307 “talking” about this site. I’d say that’s a hell of an endorsement to save these animals from extinction – these supporters may not all be from the southwest, or even Arizona, but they can all VOTE in their respective states for those politicians who support wildlife preservation, in particular, preserving wolves from irresponsible state wildlife “management” (an oxymoron for “elimination” fueled by special interest groups known as ranchers and hunters). Don’t pass these rash and reckless bills; to do so would make you entirely culpable for the probable extinction of a rare and beautiful species, and paint a picture of Arizona the likes of that other western, sadistic, wolf-killer state of Idaho. I for one would take a pass on ever retiring to your state if you continue down this premature plan of wolf extermination! azcentral/opinions/articles/20140303mexican-wolf-house-should-listen-public.html
