TO BE A PALESTINIAN CITIZEN OF ISRAEL To be a Palestinian citizen of Israel is to live in a state that by definition does not treat you as an equal citizen. As non-Jews in the Jewish state, they are discriminated against and denied their fundamental rights based on their identity. Adalah challenges instances of institutional discrimination against Palestinian citizens of Israel, like those illustrated below, before the Israeli courts and in its local and international advocacy. Will you join us in struggling for equality and justice for Palestinian citizens of Israel in 2015? My husband is not allowed to live with me and our children in Israel because he is born in the West Bank. Israel does not recognize my right to family life. I was expelled from Haifa University for holding a silent protest in commemoration of the Nakba. Israel does not recognize my right to express my national identity. My home is to be destroyed by the state in order to build a new village for Jewish citizens. Israel does not recognize my right to live on the land. My political party could be disqualified because it believes in a ‘state for all its citizens’ instead of a ‘Jewish and democratic state’. Israel does not recognize my full right to political participation. I was held in incommunicado detention for travelling to Beirut. Israel does not recognize my right to connect with my people and culture. A car rental company denied me their services because my family name is Jabareen.
