TO DAY IS THE BIRTH DAY OF SHAHID MAJOR P. SHYAM SUNDAR- IC 57180-M –SENA MEDAL OF 10-MADRAS REGIMENT, OF INDIAN ARMY. IN PROUD MEMORY OF HIM. The Country Remains Indebt to you… Andhra School ( 1991 ) Alumni, Andhra Association School, Kolkata DOB-2ND AUGUST 1975 DATE OF MARTYRDOM-5TH MARCH 2006 BRIEF HISTORY—Born to J. Panchapagesan and P. Lakshmi at Sishu Mangal, Kolkata As the 4th child after Shyama Sridharan, Hema Murali and Maya Balaji. EDUCATION---Andhra Association School, Kolkata OTHER ACIVITIES---karate, Black belt under Shivaji Ganguli, Expert swimmer and won prizes in all styles at Rabindra Sarobar Lakes, renowned rower with trophies at Rabindra Sarobar Lakes, Badminton and Squash, athlete in Excelsior’s club and South India Club. He was about 6’ in height that helped him a lot in this regime. ARMY—selected in the tough competition and entered NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY, KHATAKWASLA, emerged successful with distinction and again admitted in INDIAN MILITARY ACADEMY, DEHRADUN and here again emerged successful with distinction and commissioned in the year 1997 as Lieutenant and chose the highly challenging division of Infantry. Fought tough battles in jungle with terrorists and infiltrators by leading from the front and eliminated lot of terrorists with his fighting skills. Got rather quick promotions as CAPTAIN, and also MAJOR and for the same reason called back from the training academy at KAMPTY ( NAGPUR ) and deputed to 38-RASHTRIYA RIFLES to face the onslaught of terrorists. On the early morning of 5th of March 2006 he was involved while leading a force at KUPWARA and after eliminating a few succumbed to a bullet that was a Sunday. His body was air flown to CHENNAI and the cremation was done with full military honours that was viewed by millions in the TVon 7th of March 2006. On 2nd of August 2006 his photo was unveiled by retd Chief of Army staff Roy Chowdhury at Andhra Association School and a fund was raised around the globe to institute scholarships, prizes in sports and academic by his friends and well wishers in the name of the Martyr. NB—He has left behind his wife and our grand daughter DISHA SHYAMSUNDAR-now 12 years ) JAIHIND!!!
