TO MAYOR BILL DE BLASIO AND RISA WEINSTOCK: June 4, 2014 Dear Mayor de Blasio: In just 4 days, your appointee, Risa Weinstock, signed the death warrants of 25 innocent dogs and a gaggle of cats. Is this the role assigned to her - hatchet woman?? While Risa Weinstock and her absentee Medical Director are enthroned in their ivory tower at 11 Park Place, a short distance away slaughter reigns supreme. Its completely disgusting and by now a whole lot of people are wondering about your sanity and lack of empathy and compassion. Risa Weinstock has treated the public that pays her as if they dont exist. Did she learn this tactic from you?? And like you, she never acknowledges the public and couldnt care less about its opinion of her - something like you - but with one major difference: So far, to my knowledge, you havent sentenced anyone to death, but she does it every day. Completely appalled by the deaths of 9 dogs during an Adoptions Event and 20 more since then, below is the message I sent Weinstock today, which Im betting will be totally ignored, like you ignore everybody. Gee, come to think of it, you and Weinstock have a lot in common! When there should be lots of space in NYCs 3 shelters, what is the excuse for killing these latest 20 dogs? The usual time, space, an epidemic,boredom, another failed Adoptions Event or just plain sadism? TO: Risa Weinstock @ [email protected] Subject: THE PEOPLE THAT PAY YOU DESERVE ANSWERS!!! How is it possible that 3 days after an Adoptions Event which if successful, wouldve resulted in lots of empty cages in the shelters, in 2 days you signed the death warrants of thirteen dogs and plenty of cats too? So I guess its safe to assume that the May 31-June 1 Adoptions Event was as successful as all the other such adoption events under your reign of terror. Thousands of people that see the results of your administration of the Animal Care & Control are wondering how you justify your lavish salary and benefits and exactly what it is that you do. You can bet that theyre unimpressed with your powerpoint presentations, graphs and blatant lies and wonder about your fundraising and adoption policies too, and rightfully so. Most people take issue with ineptitude at their expense. So far, youve spent a whole lot of time hiding behind propaganda and lies and the Department of Healths protection, but as your predecessor went down you will too. But you wont get the opportunity to resign like she did. People are signing a petition to throw you out. I guess you just never grasped the concept of humanity or empathy and just dont understand that there are no positive outcomes in the face of slaughter when there are alternatives you apparently choose to ignore. Killing 100 instead of 500 bears no resemblance to the word positive unless youre willing to be one of the victims. Obviously, you have no ideas that make a positive impact on the lives of homeless shelter animals and think that killing them for expedience makes you a heroine. I hate to tell you what it makes you to the people that witness your daily slaughters. Killing puppies and day-old kittens is savagery. There is no way to justify this when you are totally responsible for their deaths and make little to no effort to save them. Private citizens are getting exasperated of doing your work for you and delegating the responsibility for saving dogs and cats to rescues and vet care too, makes you mostly pointless and animals your collateral damage. Putting the onus on irresponsible owners doesnt absolve you of your own failures or dispense with the absurdity of calling the hellholes you operate shelters. They are death camps and your policies define the words pointless and cruel. If this is the best you can do, maybe youd be more adept at running high-security prisons and dealing with death row prisoners, because obviously you know nothing about dogs and cats or how to save them. You cant even manage your own employees. NYC taxpayers did not hire a head executioner. Those can be bought anywhere. What they hoped for was someone with a conscience and new ideas, and obviously you have neither. Your convenient numbers, graphs and powerpoint presentations do not equate with reality. Other people can count too and they see the horror. Im guessing that you never see the faces of your victims and I think you should. Sleep with these tonight.
