In view of the recent developments, specifically the on-going deliberations on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) by both Houses of Congress, it is timely to focus on the issues and concerns of women. Women have critical roles in the development of strong and empowered societies. Yet women still suffer from multiple layers of discrimination and marginalization as members of the female gender and of a minority sector in society. To this end, the Islam and Democracy Forum serves as an appropriate venue for this much needed discourse on the impact and relevance of womens critical roles in both religious and secular contexts. Special focus on the Virgin Marys own role in the major religions would certainly trigger an intensive discussion and promote a lively exchange of diverse viewpoints and perspectives.
