TODAY IN HISTORY: September 3, 1741, Jethro Hathaway marries Hannah West. September 3, 1845, The new First Congregational Church is dedicated in a service presided over by the Reverend Mr. Jacob Roberts and the Reverend Mr. William Gould. September 3, 1885, Rogers School is dedicated. It is the first public building donated to Fairhaven by Henry H. Rogers, who is 45 years old at the time. September 3, 1935, Passenger service on the Fairhaven Branch Railroad is discontinued, though freight service will continue until 1953. September 3, 1998, Mr. History Person begins contributing a weekly question and answer column to The Advocate. It is the first appearance in print of the "Mr. History Person" name.
