TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY July 13, 2014 thinkyouknowmusic Did you know...? Born on this day: (1942) Roger McGuinn, guitar, vocals (The Byrds, solo), (1942) Stephen Jo Bladd, drums (The J Geils Band). In 1964—The Animals are No. 1 on the UK singles chart with ‘The House Of The Rising Sun’. Recorded in one take, it was the first UK No. 1 single to have a playing time of more than four minutes. In 1991—Bryan Adams goes to No. 1 on the UK singles chart with ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You’, which stays at the top for a record-breaking 16 weeks. It is also a No. 1 in the US for seven weeks. In 2004—Arthur ‘killer’ Kane, bass player with The New York Dolls, dies at age 55 after checking himself in to a Los Angeles emergency room, complaining of fatigue. He is quickly diagnosed with leukemia and dies within two hours. In 2007—Rod Stewart collects his CBE from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace. The singer, who was honored for his services to music, wears a skull and crossbones tie, white trousers and a striped shirt instead of the conventional morning suit.
