TODAY IN SIKH HISTORY 13 April 1978 - Amritsar Massacre On the day of Vaisakhi 13 April 1978 about 125 Singhs went to peacefully protest against the Nirankari procession deliberately held through the city of Amritsar and against Nirankari head Gurbachanas hurtful insults and direct attack against the Gurus. Bhai Fauja Singh was barefooted and all the Singhs were reciting Gurbani. The Nirankaris opened fired at the unarmed Singhs resulting in 13 Singhs becoming Shaheed and 70-75 Singhs wounded. The Antam Sanskar took place on Saturday 15 April 1978 outside Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib, in front of a congregation of about 25-30,000. All the Shaheed Gursikhs were cremated together.
