TODAY, nationwide, we celebrate the 91st Anniversary of secular Turkish Republic founded by Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, Turks national hero, forever... Turkish War of Independence ended in a decisive victory for the Turkish nation in genius leadership by Atatürk who also embarked intensive and comprehensive reforms that transitioned from Empire to Republic, autocracy to democracy, theocracy to secularity, and a society based on equality, plurality, and national citizenship. October 29, 1923 marked the end not of only the Ottoman Empire which spanned from 1299 to 1919, but also a brutal occupation by imperialist powers between 1919 and 1922 that threatened to destroy the Turkish nation. October 29 means independence, sovereignty, freedom and progress for the people of Turkey. Turkish Republic will live FOREVER. Buket Şahin
