TONGA EMANCIPATION DAY - Does it feel right, when TONGA is - TopicsExpress

TONGA EMANCIPATION DAY - Does it feel right, when TONGA is currently celebrating its EMANCIPATION DAY, today, with a public holiday 2 DAYS EARLY FROM THE ACTUAL DATE - 4TH OF JUNE? To me, the significance of the day is loose when you are not celebrating it on the actual date. The day that His Majesty King George Tupou I - founder of modern Tonga, FREED its people from serfdom back on the 4th of June 1843. This public holiday 2 days early is like celebrating your birthday or anniversary or christmas on a wrong date. Or commemorating the ANZAC or D-DAY or Easter on a different date. You dont get feel emotional, passionate and connecting to and about it. Does people know and understand their history? I wonder how our future generation will remember and appreciate the very reason for having a public holiday on the 4th of June every year. What do you think?
