TONIGHT EDDIE CUE AND I ARE BREAKING OUT THE RECORDS. THATS RIGHT I SAID IT............RECORDS. I HAVENT PLAYED WITH THIS LEGEND SINCE THE 90S! TONIGHT H.O.M.E. WELCOMES THE LEGENDARY EDDIE CUE he Musical Journey Of Eddie Cue: Born & Raised in Harlem New York, I grew up with the glory days of radio featuring WBLS 107.5fm and the Frankie Crocker show. Started DJing at 11, with two close & plays (a child toy played 45’s), graduated to borrowing my moms Garrard turntables, then I got my first working papers and saved up to buy a pair of technics sl-1800’s. From then on it was a wrap… Started spinning block parties, and red light basement parties for cash. I watched the birth of Hip Hop culturally as well as musically unfold in front of me on the streets of NYC. I founded the Brooklyn Tech spinners club from our HS radio broadcast team, in my senior year. I then jetted up to Boston and settled in at Harvard WHRB 95.3fm supported first ever urban programming for that ultimately gave way to Dave Maze and the source magazine foundations. I simultaneously settled in at Northeastern WRBB 91.7fm at that time and ultimately moved the signal to 104.9fm with a live on air switch on at Narcissus Night Club in the early 80’s. Club life took on a new beginning with my first residency at Aga’s the strip joint on Washington St., then stints at Rileys Beef & Pub, Kix, Estelles, Lanes Lounge, Skycap Plaza, then graduated to Metro, 9 Landsdowne Street and the Loft. Side note , we brought RUN DMC to the Nine as we called it for the first time ever out of NYC Russell Simmons still remembers, priceless… Became a member of NEDJA The New England DJ Association, then ultimately brought it from on of my DJ mentors Cosmo Wyatt, then went on to purchasing the Boston record Pool as well as creating the New England Latin DJ’s. I went on to working with Sunny Joe White at Kiss 108 doing mixes, many played in rotation, simply unheard of today. Side note the most prolific radio programmers of all time Frankie Crocker & Sunny Joe White. Spent a short time at WILD 1090am doing mix show radio with Charles Clemmons Founder of Touch 106.9fm community radio under PD Elroy RC Smith. I developed an amazing relationship with the late great Mel Cheren of West End Records, who introduced me to Michael Brodie and Larry Levan of The Paradise Garage. Spent so many weekend commuting to the garage for the music and ultimately played at the request of Larry Patterson of Prelude records. Special note to a personal friend & mentor Larry Basile leader in the Boston Gay Rights, and lifestyle who opened my eyes to music & events beyond my limited scope, and who later became my partner in the telecommunications biz (another bio lol) I soon began to Segway into promotion and marketing as on of the first ever street teams and certainly the largest north of NYC, with the foundation of INDI-PRO Promotion & Marketing. Special thanks to my partners DJ Addition & DJ Statik Selektah. We earned over 12 gold & Platinum record awards during this journey. The first was gold for Afrika bambata Souls Sonic Force “Planet Rock” awarded by Arthur Baker & Tom Silverman of Tommy Boy Records, plus many more previously from the record pools. Soon Showoff records & marketing spun off with the amazingly talented DJ Statik Selektah & Brandon, and then became my club impresario life. Early on during this journey, I put 965 Mass Ave on the map, that became the Gallery / Cotton Club, then launched the Latin Quarter for 5 years at the Roxy, Launched the prolific game changing Officers Club at the Palace for 10 years, and during that time launched the legendary Copa Latin Night there as well. When the Palace sold, came back to Boston and ultimately launched yet another first in Quincy for almost 4 years called Club 58. Then came Cambridge, with the grand opening of Naga Saturdays, and ultimately the current event management residency Fridays & Saturdays at Fire & Ice. Look for up coming events at Vlora Lounge as I present variety of events including 30+, Latin, Haitain, African and more…. Been a long ride, and still just getting warned up
