TONY OBUH URGE SCHOOL CHILDREN TO IMBIBE READING CULTURE. Sir Tony Chuks Obuh, a gubernatorial aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Delta State has advised Nigerian youth to imbibe reading culture so as to become well informed leaders of tomorrow. He said the recent results released by relevant senior secondary school examination bodies in the country revealed massive failure as a result of new strategies adopted by the authorities to check examination malpractices and criminal activities of miracle examination centres across the country. The governorship aspirant who spoke through his representative, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe at the launch of a book titled: READING AID written by Dr. Daniel Christmans, said there is the urgent need for parents and guardian to encourage their wards to read and do away with collaborative efforts with children in perpetuating well concealed examination vices. Obuh said if elected Governor of Delta State in 2015, his administration will sustain and improve on the existing remarkable achievements of Governor Uduaghans administration in the education sector by encouraging inter-school reading and spelling-bees competition as well as award scholarship to indigent but exceptionally brilliant students across the twenty five local government areas in the State. He commended His Excellency, Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan for making primary and secondary education free and compulsory in the State and urged parents to key into the vision of government by ensuring that their children are not seen in the streets hawking during school hours so as not to violate the states legislation and deliberate efforts in providing compulsory free and qualitative education for our future leaders Also speaking at the book launch, the Chairman of the occasion and former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof (Chief) Sam Oyovbaire, expressed absolute displeasure over the poor attitude of Okpe youth towards education, pointing out that majority of them are only interested in making quick money through illegal land fees collections from private and corporate investors at project sites. He told the audience that the Uduaghan’s administration has done well in education infrastructure and provision of modern learning equipment which should be well utilized to enhance education standard in the state. The book launch took place at the Okpe Hall in Sapele, Delta State and was well attended by lots of dignitaries including His Royal Highness, the ORODJE OF OKPE who was ably represented.
