TOO SOON As children we all long for things and just can’t seem to wait The time between “right now” and “then” goes slowly everyday We bide our time, fill up our days, stay busy to stay sane Try not to think ‘cause waiting is sustained and constant pain But as we grow the time between seems shorter in some way Or maybe “then,” not as important as what we need today Much later on, though, time begins to travel so much faster Things come much more quickly now, the pleasant and disastrous We pass so many things it seems, sometimes we just forget First this, then that and before you know what’s coming is worse yet The first time, it is hard enough; you’re world turned upside down And hopefully you’re given time to get back on solid ground Death is never easy, though it’s part of everyday Still, when it comes, it exacts a price and one we all must pay No matter how much faith we have or strength to face the task It still hurts like the dickens as we smile at those who pass.
