TOOWOOMBA and Darling Downs residents will get the opportunity to meet with Premier Campbell Newman and Cabinet Ministers next month in the final Community Cabinet meeting for the year. The two-day event will be held in the Garden City on November 24 - 25. The public meetings will be held on Sunday, November 24 at the Sacred Heart Primary School at Wilsonton. Premier Campbell Newman said he was looking forward to meeting with residents and listening to their concerns first-hand. Holding Community Cabinet in Toowoomba will give locals a chance to talk face-to-face with ministers about their particular areas of interest or concern, Mr Newman said. Our ministers already have a good understanding of the issues facing the region, particularly the challenges of balancing resource industry interests, agricultural operations, infrastructure and lifestyle needs, he said. Member for Toowoomba South John McVeigh said he expected other topics to be raised during community delegations. This is a prime opportunity for locals to discuss the things that matter to them, and I would think issues such as roads, rail and local business conditions will be high on the agenda, he said. Member for Toowoomba North Trevor Watts said the Darling Downs was central to the governments plan to power-up Queenslands economy. The region is a real focus for future investment and growth, and being on the ground in the district is an important part of ministers getting a real feel for how things are progressing, Mr Watts said. They also get the chance to hear a cross section of views about how we can make a change for the better in this state. It will be the eleventh Community Cabinet held in regional Queensland, following sessions in Goondiwindi, Fraser Coast, Cairns, Townsville, Kingaroy, Whitsundays, Ayr, Thursday Island, Gladstone and Emerald.
