Rick Franclemont said a few passerbys alerted his daughter Renee to the fire in the chicken coop. About 20 chickens were inside of the coop at the time. Renee, who owns the barn and the popular business Primitives and Produce The Farm, was able to get 11 young chickens away from the blaze. With the help of some firefighters, Renee was able to drag a small chicken coop back to the house. According to Renee Franclemont there were heat lamps operating in the chicken coop at the time of the fire. According to Corfu Fire Chief Dean Eck, hay stored on the second story of the barn also fueled the fire. The coop and the barn were a total loss. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Genesee County Emergency Management Office and the Corfu Fire Department. For more on this story watch WGRZ, WHAM, WHEC and WKBW. The Albion Fire Department was dispatched to 205 North Main street at 3:50 p.m. for a working structure fire. When firefighters arrived on scene smoke could be seen coming from the side door and from the front garage door area. Albion Police Chief Roland Nenni says the fire was extinguished in about five minutes. Firefighters then discovered the body on the floor in the shop area after the fire was put out. According to Nenni, the building itself did not sustain much damage and the fire was entirely around the body where it was found. We are calling this a suspicious incident because the body was found consumed with fire on the floor, says Nenni. Orleans County investigators, State Police and NYS Fire are assisting the Albion Police Department with the investigation. Investigators will remain on scene most of the night and the body will be transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office to be identified. The flyers offer a reward for any information on the stomping death of a cat in front of Raceway Mini-market at 629 East Main street. The reward offer has gone up to $750 from $500 after someone made a donation to the group this morning. Castleman, who is with Volunteers for Animals, says she is disgusted by the violent act that was reported to police on December 3rd at 6:30 p.m. A man walking his dark brown German Shepard let his dog go after a cat as he was passing by the Mini-market. According to a witness, the dog was tossing the cat six feet in the air. When it landed on the ground the man then stomped on it, killing it. Castleman says a witness attempted to stop the attack, but the man sent his dog after her also. Thats when police were called. When police arrived on scene the dog and its owner had left the scene, but the dead cat was found. The cat was brought to the Animal Shelter where Volunteers for Animals paid for an examination by a vet to determine how it had died. Castleman says the cat had multiple puncture wounds and a crushed skull and spine. She believes it was not a feral or a stray cat. The owner of the dog is described as a tall white male.
