TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST DETAILED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING for DESTRUCTIVE WIND and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in parts of the Sydney Metropolitan area. Issued at 8:16 pm Tuesday, 14 October 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 8:15 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Hurstville and Kurnell. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Sydney City, Sydney Airport, Sydney Olympic Park and the Sydney Harbour Bridge by 8:45 pm and Parramatta, Manly and Ryde by 9:15 pm. Destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * Dont walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Unplug computers and appliances. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500. bom.gov.au/products/IDN65152.shtml
