TOP TEN UNBREAKABLE NASCAR SPRINT CUP RECORDS: #1. Richard Pettys 200 wins- His 200th and final win came in The Firecracker 400 at Daytona in 1984. Then President Ronald Reagan was in attendance at the race. The next closest driver with the most wins is David Pearson with 105. NASCAR had more races and less competition than there is now. #2. Richard Pettys 27 win season- Richard Pettys 1967 season was arguably the most dominant in NASCAR history. He won 27 of 49 races which is 55% of the races. The next closest competitor with the most wins in a season is Tim Flock with 18 wins in 1955. In the last 35 years the most wins in a season was 13 by Jeff Gordon in 1998. #3. Richard Pettys 10 consecutive wins- Not only did Petty have the most wins in 1967 , he also holds the record for most wins in a season as well. From the 37th race at Winston-Salem to the 46th race at North Wilkesboro he won every single race. Leading 1,781 laps in that span He lead more laps in 10 races than most good drivers today lead in two or three seasons. #4. Jimmie Johnsons 5 consecutive championships- From the 2006 season through the 2010 season no driver besides Johnson won a title. When Cale Yarborough won his third straight title in 1978 no one before or since won more than 2 straight titles until Johnson. #5. Bobby Allisons 39 consecutive races leading at least one lap- From the 40th race of 1971 (48 races in 1971) through the 30th race of 1972 Allison lead at least one lap. In the 39 race span Allison also lead 5,800 laps. A record that will never even be challenged again. #6. Richard Pettys 126 poles- No driver was better at qualifying for NASCAR races than Richard Petty. The next closest driver with the most poles is David Pearson with 113 poles. Jeff Gordon is the closest active driver with the most poles (74). #7. Richard Pettys 51,379 laps led- To be the King of NASCAR you have to win a lot of races. When you win races and are good you lead laps. No driver even comes close to Petty in total laps led. Cale Yarborough has led the second most laps in NASCAR history with 31,556. 20,000 less than Petty! Thats more than almost any great driver will lead in his whole career. #8. Darrell Waltrips 7 consecutive Bristol wins- Bristol Motor Speedway opened in 1961 and has hosted two races a season since. From the spring Bristol race of 1981 to the spring race in 1984 Darrell Waltrip avoided wrecks, mechanical failures, and any real competition from his fellow competitors to win seven straight Bristol races. The only other driver to come close was Cale Yarborough win four straight wins at Bristol (both races in 1976 and 1977). #9. Jeff Gordons 21 consecutive seasons with at least one pole- David Pearson held the record with the most consecutive pole seasons for 31 years until Jeff Gordon won the pole in the fall Richmond race this season. He has one at least one pole in every full-time season hes ever competed in from 1993 through 2013 (21 years). #10. Jeff Gordons 6 consecutive road course wins- Turning left and right is a skill most NASCAR drivers dont have. Jeff Gordon is not one of them. He won Watkins Glen in 1997. He won both road course races in 1998 and 1999. Gordon won Infineon in 2000. While trying to extend his streak to seven consecutive at Watkins Glen Jeff got slammed into the inside wall on lap one by Tony Stewart. Jeff Gordon finished 23rd. Gordon showed his displeasure to Stewart after the race in the infield. None the less its another NASCAR record that will never be duplicated.
