TOURISM WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD IN TANZANIA Tourism has emerged the top foreign exchange earner in Tanzania last year and basing on its great potential, the sector has much to be confident about in 2014. The Central Bank of Tanzania said in its latest monthly economic reviews that tourism had maintained growth to become the leading earner of hard currency overtaking gold whose performance was undermined by low output and a decline in global price. ~ African Travel and Tour Association OP ED Tanzania brings in $1.8 billion a year in tourism - many to come to the Serengeti to see the migration. There are over 600,000 jobs tied directly to the industry. Not to mention all the people that benefit indirectly - from the farmers and ranchers that provide food to the lodges, to the carvers and bead jewelry makers who sell their work at the many curio shops that cater to the tourist.
