TOUTES CAVES OUVERTES A CELEBRATION OF SOME OF LANGUEDOC’S FINEST WINES SUNDAY 20 APRIL 2014 ‘Un Eldorado’ : that’s how one of France’s leading wine magazines described Montpeyroux – nowadays widely recognized as a star in the Languedoc wine firmament. On Sunday 20 April, the village’s twenty-two independent wine makers and the Cave Cooperative will be showing their latest vintages during the annual open day Toutes Caves Ouvertes. Wine lovers will be able to wander from Cave to Cave (possibly in a horse drawn buggy !) tasting an exciting variety of red, white and rosé wines whilst enjoying a great day of music, good food, rambles through the vines and entertainment including pony rides and activities for children. The incredible range of wines in Montpeyroux is due to a number of factors : its history, complex geology, splendid climate, grape varieties – and the personalities of the producers whose different personalities and careers are reflected in a fascinating range of wines in caves ranging from tiny ones producing around 3000 bottles of wine a year, to the Cave Cooperative’s annual 1.3million bottles. Montpeyroux wines are sold internationally (throughout Europe, to India, China, Thailand, Russia, the USA ….), they appear on the wine lists of over a hundred Michelin starred restaurants worldwide, and have collected innumerable national, international and provincial medals. Their success results from an alchemy between traditional values and modern tastes, and an unremitting desire to produce the quality wines which, on 20 April, will be appreciated by connoisseurs of the good things of life in the South of France. Caves will be open from 1000 – 1800h. Passport to all Caves : for 7 euros visitors receive an engraved tasting glass, glass holder, notepad and biro. Meals and snacks will be available at a variety of prices in different sites Music, entertainment and wine related activities throughout the day – for all age groups
