TRADING RED & BLACK FOR BLUE & WHITE - Petersburg High School senior Brian George, recently, signed his letter of intent to play baseball for the Penn State Nittany Lions. George, the son of Kurt and Kim George, is a multisport athlete at PHS, having played baseball, basketball and golf. He is headed to Penn State as a left-hander pitcher. It appears to be a good move by Penn State, as George is currently ranked as the state’s third-best hurler by Prep Baseball Report. He was named to the 2014 “all state” baseball team by the WV Coaches Association. He started his baseball career as a 5-year-old T-baller playing for coach Terry Bennett. Other coaches along the way have been Dave Swick, Scotty Smith, Terry George, Jeff See, Mike Vance, Mike George, Johnny Berg, Noah Sites, Kevin Reed, Korey Reed, plus the PHS staff) of B.J Harman, Mike Landis, Rick Rotruck and Steve Arbaugh. George has played two years of “travel” ball for the Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Pirates, coached by Fred Albert. Former PHS coach Joe Mohr has played a role in the athlete’s academic and baseball development. “These people have had a serious role in my success and I wouldn’t be here without them,” stated George. “I wouldn’t have this opportunity without them. I would like to personally thank each and every one of them for their patience and effort to make me a better ball player and person.”
