TRAINING WHILST PREGNANT IS SAFE! Despite what your mum and grandma were told, exercising while pregnant is a good idea and it should involve some effort. There are two ultimate goals for my prenatal clients. To help make women strong and fit in order to support the changes/challenges during pregnancy. To train for a safe labour and delivery for mum and baby. As a qualified Pre and Postnatal Trainer I am here to help you remain fit and healthy throughout your pregnancy and after! Previously pregnant women were told to cease any exercise routines, but it is now known to have many advantages for both mothers and babies to do regular and moderate exercise throughout pregnancy. Exercise during pregnancy can help maintain a healthy weight gain. It can be especially good for overweight or obese mothers to get them into a regular exercise routine to continue after birth. There are many symptoms which pregnancy brings of which exercise can help with. It can give you more energy, reduce stress, help with stabilising your mood, prevents and relieves constipation, reduce back pain and strain; and improve your sleep. Approximately 3-8% of all pregnant women develop gestational diabetes of which the risk can be reduced by exercising. Pregnant women who exercise are also likely to have shorter labours with less need for intervention, and it also helps with post-partum recovery. Pelvic floor exercises are also essential to reduce likelihood of complications in labour. Benefits of exercising for babies There are also benefits to babies whose mothers exercise during pregnancy. Exercise improves the oxygen and blood flow to the baby via the placenta. Babies are also found to be a healthier weight at birth and some have suggested babies are more intelligent when mothers exercise. The risk of post-partum depression can be reduced by continuing a network of friendships that may have been developed via exercising by reducing a mother’s isolation. Development of gestational diabetes can also cause complications during delivery and children may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. stabilisfitness.co.uk
