[TRANS] 141230 EXOLOGY Chapter 1 Photobook: On Stage & Off Stage - D.O.’s Interview 1. Is there any musician that came to mind while preparing for the concert? -For EXO’s first solo tour, I only concentrated on the concept. 2. When was it hardest on you while on the tour? -There were several times it was difficult. But I think I found as much happiness as difficulty. 3. When did you get most nervous backstage? And how did you control that? -When I’m onstage there’s no nervousness. Standing onstage is always fun. Sometimes there are huge mistakes made, but they can be swallowed, they don’t make me shake much over the next stage. I recover quickly, because it feels like I need to have fun so fans can have fun too. So rather, my nervous moments are during interviews, like now. 4. What was the reason for choosing “Tell Me What is Love” as your solo stage? -Well, because it’s a song I like. It’s in the genre I like most. 5. It seems that your ability to understand the lyrics and sing with feeling is outstanding, so what would you say you do in particular to appreciate the emotions? -It’s like as I sing, everything I’ve experienced in life becomes the feelings that come out. There isn’t anything I do separately to appreciate the emotions. 6. We would like to hear your impressions of this first concert tour. -Standing onstage for our first personal concert tour, I was really choked by emotions I can’t describe with words. The thrill in the shouts of our fans who were the audience I felt as my own. Even now, if I think about then, it’s a weird feeling. During the practice for the concert, I thought things were difficult, but in the moment I went on stage, all those hard times were forgotten. It feels like as we progressed through the tour, we also experienced all these human ups and downs. Of course, if I had to choose one between up or down, I would say ‘up’ right now. I’m very happy. 7. Have you become accustomed to the time in hotels after performing now? -Yes. I’m now very familiar. Because we pretty much can’t go outside while overseas, there was nothing to do and at first it was boring, but gradually, whether through listening to music or watching movies, I found ways around that. 8. During this tour, what was the music you listened to the most? -I listened the most to Eric Benet. 9. You picked Brian McKnight’s and Beyonce’s performances as the most striking to you. -I saw Brian McKnight perform in Korea, and honestly I’d never seen a foreign artist perform in person. It was the first time listening to something live, and I can’t forget that feeling. I’ve only seen Beyonce’s performances on video but, wah, they were so passionate to the point I wondered how a person like that could exist. 10. D.O., who is your role model in music? -Boys II Men’s main vocal, Wanya Morris. I like his vocals the most. 11. I am curious of the list of movies you most recently watched. -I’ve watched Interstellar, Fury, and Gone Girl. 12. You’ve watched all of the latest movies. Did you watch Interstellar in IMAX? -No, I felt that even without IMAX, a big screen would be enough. Although for Gravity, I did feel IMAX would be meaningful. 13. How were Gone Girl and Fury? -You have to watch Gone Girl. I felt that they were amazing for being able to convey this kind of vision through video. Lately when I watch movies I mainly look at how the actors work. In Fury, I was surprised by the very youngest actor who came out as a soldier. 14. You cook the best in EXO, right? -No. That’s not it. Truthfully, I can’t do it for anyone often. Although I have a few times after debut… 15. Are you able to have breakfast anywhere you are? -I don’t eat very well. A mix of breakfast and lunch, and dinner, I have two meals like that. 16. Do you have any foods where you say ‘if you go to this country, you have to try this’? -For now, if you go to China you have to eat huo guo. It’s my favorite Chinese food. It’s like shabu shabu, but its preparation and taste is different from the kind you find in Korea. 17. How are they different? -In Chinese shabu shabu one pot is divided into two spaces. On one side is a clear, mild broth and in the other is a red broth with a lot of spices put in. You dip vegetables in the soup just like how we eat it in Korea, but in China you can enjoy two very different flavors. And in Japan, try ramen. I like the tonkotsu ramen. The taste of Japan’s ramen is different from Korea’s, it’s entirely different. It can be strongly addictive. 18. What are items you never forget to pack for overseas activities? -Toiletries, underwear, pajamas. If you have these three things you can go anywhere. 19. You said that during the tour, the music you listened to the most was Eric Benet’s - which? -I like anything from contemporary R&B, but among it I really like Eric Benet. I like him so much it’s hard to single his music out. There are a lot of songs that come to mindL ‘Harriett Jone’ ‘Never Want to Live Without You’ ‘Sometimes I Cry’ ‘Chocolate Legs’. 20. What do you do to pass time in the waiting room before going on stage? -Talk with the members, or listen to music. I pass time just matching the atmosphere. I’m not the type to be super self-motivated in the waiting room. 21. After crowding with EXO members, it must be odd to be alone in a hotel room after performing. Were you lonely in the hours afterwards during the course of the tour? -When the members are together, it’s fun. You hardly feel lonely. But I don’t mind being alone either. 22. For the concert you’ve gone to many countries, so what scenery remains most in your memory? -For me, I remember countries by their food. New tastes from that country, the most delicious food, and the ones I want to try again the most. Most recently, I’d like to try Fukuoka’s ramen again. cr: nebulaexo -Tink
