His pale complexion and tall height, accessorized with his face mask and his lined long eyes, give mysterious power and strong aura. This is the feeling that Zelo wants to bring us - an image same as Zelos, the Greek God of Rivalry! “I’m not a villager from Mokpo!” Zelo once dreamt of becoming a soccer player when he was still a Primary student. To make his dream come true, he spent every day of his childhood with soccer. With persistent practice, he possessed the ability good enough to join the local underage soccer team when he was in Grade 5. However, strongly opposed by his parents, Zelo gave up soccer in the end. After a while of frustration, Zelo secretly fell for another charm in life - music. He was mesmerized by the dance performances of senior groups on TV. The dancing images kept replaying in his head even after the dance show was over. Since then, Zelo began to practice the sunbaes’ dance move in small bites at home in front of a mirror. Not long after he starting his self-learning, Zelo’s great potentials were soon discovered. He was then smoothly accepted by the dance academy in which Seungri previously practiced At that time, due to the huge difference between his fashion sense and that of the academy, he was once told “not to come to the academy again if you don’t fix your dressing style” by his teacher. Zelo returned after he changed his style, but his peers didn’t treat him as kindly as he expected - all of them looked down on him. “Many people around me also thought that I won’t succeed. I felt hurt especially when I heard things like “that villager from Mokpo”. But also because of this, I started reform myself. I paid special attention to appearance, fashion and music in particular.” Zelo surpassed the rest in the speed of light during his days in the academy, existing with outstanding abilities. With his born fashion sense he also became a widely recognized fashionista. The rough journey to Seoul After accumulating sufficient ability in dancing and singing, Zelo’s discovery by an agency came as no surprise. Since then his journey to Seoul began. Practicing in Seoul was very different, in a sense that the training schedule was stricter and more systematic. Zelo was completely stressed out by the strenuous training as he was at the same time a student. “Though studying and receiving training in phase is never an easy task, I was living a joyful life. With the thought of debuting very soon, it was as if my dream was eventually going to come true. I was even more hardworking as a result.” With that optimistic attitude, Zelo smoothly made his way out of the hard time. The debuting plan was however not realized as he expected. There were irreconcilable issues between his former agency and him after that and Zelo could do nothing but quit. Soon after leaving that company, Zelo entered TS Entertainment. The first person he met upon his arrival is Bang Yongguk, who is now in the same team with him. Whose appearance though not outstanding, Bang Yongguk brought to Zelo an incredibly stunning performance. This made Zelo, who was originally pretty satisfied with his own ability, determined “to practice hard so as not to lag behind Yongguk hyung”. The overwhelming aura VS The timid maknae After practicing for nearly two years, Zelo formed a sub-unit with Yongguk to preheat B.A.P’s upcoming debut. At that time Zelo’s actual strength in rap has already conspicuously stood out. He even managed not to be overshadowed by Yongguk, who was once the seed of an underground band. B.A.P debuted with “Warrior” in 2012. The members’ uniform blond hair and overalls aroused public interest, but what indeed ignited heated discussion was none other than Zelo’s LTE rap with 16 syllables per second. Whenever he saw tomatoes, he’d say cheerfully like a child, “Tomatoes are mine!” so “little tomato” became his first nickname as expected. The fortune and misfortune of this little teenager Zelo, who came to Seoul since Grade 8, seldom got time to spend with his parents. Meeting parents has become even harder after his debut. During B.A.P’s Live on Earth concert, Zelo’s eyes turned red once he took out the words he wrote to mom and dad. Upon completion of the first utterance, he couldn’t withhold his tears anymore and started weeping. This teenager experienced enormous strain which other under-17 would not have, which explained why he was particularly emotional once he started talking about his parents. Throughout the long journey of being a trainee, Bang Yongguk has been caring and protecting Zelo like his parents would have. “Yongguk hyung is my source of energy. Whenever I see him, the feeling of working harder grows inside me.” Since entering the company till now, Bang Yongguk is the only person staying with him. Having an acquaintance encouraging each other like a friend and relying on each other like a relative, Zelo is so blessed. After debuted for so long, Zelo has also unavoidably met the misfortune that most idols fail to avoid - Sasaeng fans (crazily obsessed fans)! Not long ago some Korean fans told a story about Zelo’s Saesang fan. That Saesang fan will appear in all the live recording venues, glaring at Zelo and mentally telling him that “I know everything about you”.
