TREASURES ON THE FACEBOOK BEACH ! I remember telling someone that I was on Facebook , and their eyebrows immediately went to hairline and their nose quickly wrinkled as if they had suddenly detected the presence of something FOUL in the air . Hey , the overall reputation of Facebook in a lot of circles isnt exactly STERLING . But my feeling is that you get OUT of it what you put INTO it ! Ive had tje very good fortune to meet some wonderful individuals who are passionate about progressive and socially relevant issues , and are vocal about addressing and fighting injustice in whatever form or forum . I have found relatives I never knew existed . Ive reestablished contact with dear friends , and have established new friendships . I continue to be impressed by the dedication of some , amazed by the industry and innovation of others , and humbled by the devotion of a select few . All things come in varying degrees . If your view is to gaze on a field of diamonds , youve consulted the wrong treasure map . The richness here is found in the day to day issues of drudgery , troubles and triumphs played out in real-time by people like you and me . Some of it might seem over-the-top ! But people range in expression and temperament . Im sure there probably is a bit of voyeuristic payback in being allowed to peek into the lives of family , friends and total strangers . But there are treasures to be found here . And when you click on there is always a precious stone or two waiting to be uncovered . I know. I find them all the time . Some might throw the baby out with the bathwater in a universal condemnation of the site, but Ill take the high road ! Ive met some wonderful spirits who have dispenced precious pearls . And to them I am forever grateful . I hope that I have been able to return the favor .
