TREATING POROSITY Good day ladies, i honestly laughed to my fill yesterday reading through the porosity test post, you ladies are so beautiful inside out really. Well having low porosity is an issue as well as having high porosity, ahahahahajajahahaha, laughing cus some ladies were forcing their strands to sink hahhahahaha, thinking it was the best. Well lets tackle each porosity level. HIGH POROSITY This porosity level simply means that the cuticle is open, widely open and allows moisture to get in, but hey! as quickly as the moisture goes in, so does it run out, moisture just runs in and out, picture a scenerio where u putting a sponge in water, the sponge will quickly absorb the water, take it out of the water, the water will quickly run out, So to is high porosity hair. It absorbs quickly but does not retain so hair ends up dry and prone to breakage , the hair lacks elasticity. Ways to care for high porosity hair and reduce its porosity is by; - Deep condition weekly, this will either effectively moisturise your hair, or strengthen your hair through protein infusion. -Coconut oil, this oil had a composition that will penetrate the cuticle, and repair damage, try pre pooing with coconut oil(go easy if your protein sensitive), this oil has been described as the holy grail of natural hair. It prevent protein loss and damage - leave in, its true leave conditioners is essential for all, but this porosity level needs it more, the leave in with essential oils, enable the moisture to hold on longer. Apple cider vinegar this helps to return the pH level of hair to normal, due to its acidity nature it helps to close the cuticle of the hair giving it more ability to retain moisture. You open your cuticle during washing with hot water, then doing a final rinse with acv closes your cuticle. Even using aleo vera in ur hair butters or as a leave in is essential to high porosity. LOW POROSITY Here we have a tight cuticle that makes it difficult for moisture to penetrate, so to its difficult for moisture to run out. So with such porosity the worry is to get the moisture in, once in, it stays. - Regular green house effect is essential. - Condition with heat. Rem heat helps open the cuticle u might want to wash more with hot water. You can place a hot towel on your plastic bag during deep conditioning, occasionally seating under the dryer for about 10min with your dc, will have more effect. Or make use of the sun during dc. - Also to assist moisture to penetrate, steaming is advised, making use of the shower steam is essential or a handheld steamer can be used. - Also clarify your scalp, we do not want stuffs building up on our scalp, remember its tight so we need it more open not blocked with oils building up. Apply your moisture on wet or damp hair, cus cuticle is still open from a fresh wash, deep condition with hydrating oils, can include shea butter in dc, protein once in 6weeks, make use of a protein treatment infused with hydrating ingredients. MEDIUM POROSITY Some ladies experienced yesterday that their strands were neither sinking nor floating. Thats middle or balanced porosity, neither high no low, cuticle normal, not widely open or tightly closed. Absorb and retains moisture. So only small amounts of oil should be used. Deep condition once a week alternate with hot oil treatment. Doing protein once in 6 weeks will still strike balance between protein and moisture. So ladies, we all have to work in moisture absorbing or retaining. Huggsss Nhb Admin.
