TREATMENT FOR DIABETIC RETINOPATHY. Treatment foe diabetic retinopathy is divide as MEDICAL and SURGICAL. MEDICAL treatment will be with 1. Green laser 2. Intravitreal injection (Injection into the eye- AVASTIN or LUCENTIS) SURGICAL treatment for more advance stage of vision loss and disease where the blood inside the eye is removed surgical to preserve vision for the patient. Medical treatment prevents patients eye to progress to advance stage where surgery is needed(It defers or eliminated need of surgery). Sorry part is most of the patients who need medical treatment for diabetic retinopathy will have normal vision so may not report to RETINA specialist and end up to specialist in advance stage of disease where surgery is needed. Yearly retinal evaluation of all diabetic patients after there diagnosis as DIABETIC is suffice to prevent loss of vision due to diabetes.
