TRIBUTE TO THE GREAT MANGALISO SOBUKWE OF AZANIA THE FIRST NATIONAL PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER OF THE PAN AFRICANIST CONGRESS OF AZANIA By Nkululeko V Bukashe Command the African traditional horns to blow and drums to drum, Let them blow and drum the message. And horn the news that a great tree has fallen in the African forest. Let the African women wail in articulation As a great calamity has befallen them; Let them spread the message Here, and there, to children unborn That Great Sobukwe is dead. Let them know who Great Sobukwe was, And what he stood for in Africas struggle for freedom. Let them know that Mangaliso Sobukwe was a front rank soldier in our Struggle for Emancipation. Mangaliso Sobukwe was born in Graaf Reinett To humble parents of modest means. To Healdtown College he went in search of true knowledge, In Fort Hare University, too, he sought knowledge as an instrument for African Emancipation. Let the drums drum and the horns blow, Let the women continue to wail, Let them say emphatically that a man like Sobukwe never dies; He dies in Africas future which must be born from the barrel of the gun. Oh! Mangaliso Sobukwe, you were a great dynamic leader, Such a leader comes once in an era to a people, On your way to wherever great leaders go, Tell all those who have gone before, Tell Great Kwame Nkrumah, Muziwakhe Lembede, Makana the left Handed, Dingane, Makoanyane and Dr. Aggrey. Tell Great Shaka, Hintsa, Moshoeshoe, Sekhukhune, Khama, Patrice Lumumba, Gamal Nassar, Marcus Garvey, Malcom X, Du Bois and others. Tell all of them that A.P Mda, Godfrey Pitje, Victor Sefora and Ntsu Mokhele. Great ideologues and exponents on African Nationalism and Pan Africanism for a, Higher philosohy of Pan Africanism, are still on course for Africas freedom. Also tell them that the Struggle for Africas Freedom continues unabated; Tell them that Namibia and Azania are waging a Peoples War of do-or-die for freedom. Tell them that the blood of our Forefathers, your blood and other Africans In martrydom continues to nourish the Tree of Freedom until final victory. And so sooner or later, (but more sooner than later), All Africa, Cape to Cairo - Morocco to Malagasy will be free - in a Glorious triumphant march to Pan Africanism. Finally tell all of them that Africas revolutionary masses patience with Neo-colonialism has run out! And that they have no alternative but to return to the bush for a real Revolution in a justified rebellion; For the total overthrow of neo- colonialist regimes in Africa into oblivion. And, for the attainment of true peoples participatory democracy in actual Self-involvement in decision- making processes. And so, Great Kwame Nkrumah and Great Mangaliso Sobukwe, Africa will build Out of your ideals The ultimate realisation of a New Africa - the United Socialist States of Africa.
