TROOP A NEWS RELEASE December 5, 2014 Two Unrestrained Drivers Killed in Livingston Parish Fatal Crash Walker – Shortly after 5:30 pm on December 4, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash resulting in two fatalities that occurred on LA Hwy 447 south of I-12 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the lives of 50 year old Lloyd R. Hutson, Jr. of Jackson, LA and 76 year old Raymond C. Bender of Denham Springs. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Hutson was driving a 1994 GMC pickup truck northbound on LA Hwy 447. At the same time Bender was driving a 2006 Lincoln Town Car southbound on LA Hwy 447. As Hutson entered a right hand curve his GMC crossed the center line into the southbound lane of travel. As a result the GMC struck the Lincoln head on. Both Hutson and Bender were unrestrained at the time of the crash and suffered fatal injuries as a result. Impairment on the part of Hutson may have been a factor in the crash. Impairment on the part of Bender is not suspected. Toxicology samples were taken from both and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a motor vehicle crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Contact Information: TFC Jared L.
