TROPICAL CYCLONE THREAT BULLETIN 4 TROPICAL STORM AMANG (MEKKHALA1501/01W) 15 January 2014, 4.10 PM PST Tropical Storm Mekkhala has maintained strength while over the Philippine Sea. At 3.00 PM today, the center of TS Amang was last spotted at 730 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Minimum Sea Level Pressure: 998 hPa Here the official tropical cyclone parameter measurements from various weather agencies in the NW Pacific Basin. Values are written in this format: (maximum sustained winds near the center / wind gusts / movement speed / direction). All values are in km/h. PAGASA-DOST: 65 (10-min) / 80 / 19 / WNW JMA: 65 (10-min) / 93 / 25 / WNW USN JTWC: 65 (1-min) / 83 / 26 / WNW Satellite Estimate on Rainfall: JAXA GSMaP estimate of rainfall within the 300 km diameter of TS ranges from 5.0 to 15 mm/hr (moderate to heavy), and may reach in excess of 25 mm/hr (intense) near the center of circulation. Intensification/Weakening: INTENSIFICATION STILL LIKELY FAVORED. TS Mekkhala may reach peak intensity within the next 48 hours. Expected Movement: As per latest model outputs, TS Mekkhala is expected to take a W to WNW direction and may hit land in Eastern Samar within the next 48 to 60 hours. Note that model track guidance shows the position of the center of the TS. The tropical cyclone still has a 300 km diameter (150 km radius).
