TRUE STORY:2 In the year 2011 I visited Abuja and even wrote two patronizing articles on the City, I went with my host to all the beautiful places of the City, and where most of the original owners were pushed aside, away from on going development and civilizations in the City. I noticed most of them were hired as house helps, security (maiguard) and other low level jobs in the land of their forefathers. I did not like what I saw. As a man with the fear of God in me, it was inhuman and secret boiling anger against a system after these peoples history and heritage , I could read it in their faces, my host was giving food and money to them everyday more like a bribe to keep himself secured in their mist. I was watching every thing with intense curiosity, I placed myself in their situation, I could not imagine a Federal Government that would take over Abeokuta and will expect me to just give it up without a fight, no matter the compensation money can not buy the history of your ancestors, they forgot. The Oracle love being an Egbaman, I love my history, I love the man called Lisabi on what he did for the Egba, I love all the good and bad side of my people so must these pushed aside people from the Federal Capital territory.what about their history and heritage? I asked. I could feel the pain of those deprived of their land to build the Federal Capital, my host had secured two applications for land in Abuja for the Oracle, but as a careful investors, I paid for the application but never submitted it, I did not feel comfortable to buy or take the land of these people, I told my host there will be war on these land in future, he laughed at me, I said, anytime I come Abuja, I would rather stay in the Hotel. You could buy, build and sell it for a larger amount, he told me, But I have never made money a priority in my life, I love a simple life, just enough to live a happy life, it should never come at the detriment of other peoples sweat or misfortune and I may never stay more than 5 days in a year in Abuja why go through it? I asked myself. I remember the story of Senator Arthur Nzeribe who never had a house in Lagos, he said he never stayed more than four days in Lagos in six months, it would be uneconomical to keep a property there, that was one of the reasons for my action apart from insecurity, we visited a very big Church and I noticed Abuja with lots of Churches more than Mosques, I told my host Bless your heart three week after I left Abuja, the Church was bombed that was in December 2011 or so, and Abuja continue to record history of explosions over explosions. Someone said we can not compare Niger Delta with Boko Haram may be if we are looking at it from economic point of view, but when you look at the dignity of history, the religion, the respect of ancestral development of a people dated back to several centuries maybe we need to understand why people are ready to blow themselves away for what ever they believe in. Maybe it is time to think of a referendum for North East of Nigeria maybe we can still shake hands across the Niger or Benue, maybe we can learn from Germany under Chancellor Bismark who let go of Austria and Hungary from the Germany states, maybe we are not doing it right with the people deprived of their history and let us put ourselves in their shoes if we can do better, I wonder what it will take Nigeria to get the Oracle to forget his history and that of Lisabi. I honestly, dont know. Maybe a review of the land policy, education, and a repackage of Nigeria must be considered, a situation that will make Lamido of Adamawa asked for 100 percent tax on the land on Federal Capital territory if the Oil producing states keep asking for more or it is time for Lagos to ask for compensation of almost 60years of the usage of Lagos as the Center of Nigeria must all be reviewed. Maybe more!
