TSSOM CRUISE UPDATE: June 6, 2014 Location: N 52 33.2 W 012 03.4 Course: 333 Speed 14.5 kt Weather: Overcast w/rain Wind: E 28 kt Seas: Rough Sea Swell Continued rain and low visibility with a following sea has the weather decks secured. Alpha continues on their training modules with lectures on steering gear and hydraulic schematics in engineering and the deck students are finalizing their bridge crawl presentations as well as reviewing confined space entry procedures. Bravo is on watch with little traffic to speak of but the need to keep us on our timeline so that we make Iceland in time to support the Maine Trade Mission that we are scheduled to support. Charlie is continuing the monotonous fight against dirt and germs as well as supporting the Stewards Department. Delta is tackling maintenance issues throughout the ship. The deck department was taking up some tile near the quarterdeck and addressing some corrosion around the deck drain while others were assigned to fire station overhauls and painting requirements. In the engine room, the 1st Asst. has continued the hot box inspections on the SSDGs and the mystery of the macerator appears to have been solved. The latest report is that the students figured out that when it was put back together, the shafts were not put in correctly, which was causing a binding issue.
