TUC vrs PUWU, dilemma. ECG and GWCL are members of PUWU which are constituent members of TUC. Now if I recall clearly as part of the proposal for tariff raise, ECG reasoned that the raise will enable it raise the salaries of its workers. I believe similar arguments would have come from GWCL. It must be minded that workers of these institutions are not on the SSSS and were not covered by the recent 10% public sector wage raise. Indeed staff of these companies do not enjoy any market premium even though we can imagine the presence of somewhat rare skills in them. From the above it seems the only source of cushioning for staff in the two organizations is internally generated funds which unfortunately have over the period shrunk due to increased cost of production. Now the only source hope for staff of these utility companies is the raise which TUC, the union which is sponsored by these same staff,is against. Could TUC be real? And is PUWU in agreement with the TUCs actions, given the deafening silence?
