TUESDAY TRAINING TIPS featuring Brad Jakel This week - TopicsExpress

TUESDAY TRAINING TIPS featuring Brad Jakel This week we talked to Brad Jakel, a Personal Trainer here at the Little Rock Athletic Club. Brad was a collegiate athlete playing football for Utah State and University of Central Arkansas. He discussed the misconception of lactic acid in the muscles being the main cause of muscle soreness after strenuous exercise. The actual cause is inflammation of microscopic tears in the muscle fibers. So how can we combat soreness? Keep moving!! – Blood flow is key. Cardio is great way to work out the soreness. It can be scaled down to a shorter, easier workout so that you do not over train. Massages or a foam roller can be used to isolate sore areas. When it comes to stretching, it is an acceptable solution. However, it’s not as effective since it does not promote blood flow and can be detrimental if you over stretch. After playing a game, Brad would have a workout for about an hour the following day. This workout would focus primarily on cardio and conditioning. How do you handle soreness after a workout? Do you have any tips or tricks? Maybe you would like to know more? Let us know in the comment section below. We are always willing to help. #PlayOn
