TURKEY TRIAL: Two police officers were sentenced on Wednesday to 10 years in prison for their roles in the death of 19-year-old student Ali İsmail Korkmaz. Korkmaz was severely beaten during the protests in Eskişehir in June 2014, and later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Prosecutors had sought a life sentence for one of the accused, officer Mevlüt Saldoğan, and a 16-year term for another accused, officer Yalçın Akbulut. Two officers were acquitted. Protests took place outside the court in Kayseri following the sentencing, while shouts of protest erupted from a public gallery.
