TUTORIAL-4 : DEPTH, DEPTH OF FIELD ( DOF ), SHARPNESS SIMPLIFIED ( Last but very important part of TUTORIAL-4 ) ( @SHIVJI JOSHI ) 4-6 DEPTH And DOF –Sometime people take both Depth and Depth Of field ( DOF ) as one and the same but it is not true. Though both may go together there is no necessary relation between the two. Sometime you may get both depth and larger Dof in one image and sometime not. If you have perspective ( Linear, Atmosferical, Sharp-Unsharp or long shadows or placement of elements in such a that work as leading line to focal point ) you will get depth , it is immaterial whether there is greater DOF or not. Look at these two photos carefully, both are with flat light and have same aperture f/10 and both have almost similar greater depth of field ( everything in focus from near to far),one was taken at FL 28mm and another one at FL 55, not much difference but both have great difference of Depth. Photo of camel has very little depth whereas landscape has beautiful deep depth because of linear perspective and bush in foreground.( Landscape was taken from within running train ) Take this third photo with very narrow DOF but nice depth created by un-sharp –sharp perspective.
