TW: discussion of rape, assault | | | | I was made aware today that the term butthurt is in reference to prison rape. I had absolutely no idea and this is the first time Ive heard it. I picked up the phrase from a friend believing it was referencing the pain you feel when you slip and fall on your tush. I would never under any circumstances knowingly make light of such a horrific and truly harmful act. I apologize sincerely to anyone who was offended by my use of the term and I assure you that I am removing the term from my vocabulary. It was not my intention to be incendiary or harmful, and especially not homophobic as I myself am queer and have been a victim of assault and rape. It was a gap in my personal knowledge that has been filled and I hate that it caused anyone pain. Being that I didnt know about it until today, Im guessing the information about it isnt being circulated as much as it should be to lay that term to rest.
