TWINS ARE A BLESSING NOT A CURSE. Kenyatta National Hospital - TopicsExpress

TWINS ARE A BLESSING NOT A CURSE. Kenyatta National Hospital received seven sets of twin from the Twins Association who came to celebrate, appreciate and share with mothers who had delivered twins at the hospital on 18th July 2014. The twins adorned the multiple and singletons with baby products marking their mission “to see and inspire the world” and creating smiles. Throughout history, twins have provoked mixed feelings. They are seen as a curse and unwanted burden in a family in terms of resources. In some communities twins’ firstborn are seen as a bad omen to the young family and have no space. The wife is divorced or one baby is killed or given out to strangers. As time has evolved the community has learnt to accept and appreciate twins. Twins have a strong bond and they are a blessing not only to their parents but also to the community. According to Dr.John O’ngech, who represented the CEO KNH noted that complications are common in women pregnant with multiples babies as compared to singletons. Minor symptoms such as nausea, heartburn, fatigue and backache are exaggerated due to the mechanical and hormonal effects of multiple pregnancies. However, he assured expectant mothers that these conditions can easily be managed at the antenatal clinics. “In the current medical knowledge, we are happy that conditions can easily be managed effectively and with minimal challenges and improved outcomes following the free maternity healthcare services”, Said Dr. O’ngech. He encouraged expectant mothers to attend antenatal clinics for early confirmation on pregnancy status in order to institute effective pregnancies management. He further advised mothers to plan for pregnancies to avoid surprises.
