TWO LAST CARDS FOR NATIONAL LIBERATION To summarize, this is what we have in the Philippines: 1. A hopelessly corrupted Office of the President, presidential commissions, bureaus and other offices; 2. A hopelessly corrupted two-chamber Congress of the Philippines, congressional employees, and offices; 3. A hopelessly corrupted Supreme Court of the Philippines, Regional Trial Courts, Municipal Courts and judicial employees; 4. A hopeless corrupted Bureau of Customs, Bureau of Internal Revenues and other revenue-raising bureaus; 5. A hopelessly corrupted Commission On Elections, COMELEC offices and employees; and 6. A hopelessly corrupt and corrupted religious leaders, churches and employees. Nevertheless, against the backdrop of this moral and spiritual darkness and hopelessness, I believe there are still two last cards left cards for national liberation, to wit: 1. The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and 2. Filipino Crusade for the Reinstatement of American Citizenship (FILCRAC). Let us deal with this last alternative one by one: ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES First, let us correct a WRONG assumption. We never had such thing as “People Power”, one or two. What we had were two coup d’etats supported by minority of the population of the country. But the Military Establishment was right in staging people-supported coup’s because they were (and still are) truly the protector of the people and the sovereignty of the State. Under Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is mandated to PROTECT THE PEOPLE and PROTECT the sovereignty of the State. However, since it is theoretically under the Office of the President, the AFP acts in a manner that, so far, can be described as opportunistic. During the last two coup d’etats, the AFP waited for a semblance of “People Power” and then swooped down upon the Presidency. But a semblance of “People Power” did not follow Madam Gloria M. Arroyo’s (GMA) confession that the rigged --- or, raped --- the sovereign will of the People in 2004 because, in the opinion of many political pundits and observers, the generals of the AFP were either bribed or seduced by GMA or both. In other words, like a virus, GMA adopted to the pressures of “People Power” and realized the fact that, if at all, the only way to stay in power illegally was to use all resources and means at her command --- fair or foul --- to neutralize or control the AFP and the PNP. And with the advise of former AFP generals working for her, the job was effectively done. The AFP was silenced. Premises considered, our LAST HOPE then lies in a situation where, one day, a brave, highly-principled and totally honest military officer rises to the highest rank of the AFP and, without waiting for a semblance of “People Power”, takes over the Presidency and institute Meritocratic reforms for the Masses, God and Country. THE DUAL AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP CRUSADE That we are still citizens of the United States is a fact. It is true. All that we really have to do is boldly assert it, plausibly maintain the claim for citizenship, and --- without doubt --- we will get it. The problem here is that --- unlike the military which is the least corrupted of all institutions in the Philippines --- the People are morally and spiritually comatose and corrupted. They do not seem to trust anyone anymore. To them, everyone is suspect. And because they are living dead, they do not seem to care about themselves and their children anymore. Despite this shocking reality of apathy on the part of the People, I believe that there are still educated and principled Filipinos out there who might try to help us set this second last transport to freedom in motion and save our half-dead People in the name of God and Country.
