TWO NEW EVENTS AT MYLAPORE FEST ------- Listen to Mylapore stories. Attend a kolam workshop. ---------- The first event also launches the Mylapore Social History Project - the aim is to record the memories of senior Mylaporeans. On Saturday, Kedar Rao whose family has lived on East Mada Street since the 1930s will share his mada street life while Dr. Y Ravi, retired Head Master of Sri Ramakrishna Mission, T Nagar will talk about the Mylapore Hindi Teaching Centre on Salai Street which was the place to learn Hindi. This event starts at 6.30pm. On Sunday, at 3.45 pm the stories will be shared by two people - 82-year-old Saraswathi who came to Mylapore as a bride when the War was on - in 1942 and lived her life with a person who was Mylapores biggest silversmith will tell her tales. Also, Vimala Vasudeva Rao whose roots are in Mylapore will talk about a day in the life of a Mylapore family in 1950s. Vimala is a freelance writer for print and radio and now lives in T. Nagar. Both events are at Lady Sivaswamy Girls School ( prayer hall) and will be moderated by R. Venkataraman. It is open to all. The second event hosted by Mylapore Festival is a Workshop on Basics of Kolam conducted by artist-dancer-cultural activist Chantal Jumel. It is on Sunday, 2 pm at Lady Sivaswamy Girls School. For 1 hour only. Open to all. Participants can walk down to the Kolam Contest zone after this event and enjoy the display. Free.
