TWO SHEFFIELD WASTE CENTRES TO CLOSE DURING WEEKEND STRIKES Two household waste recycling centres in Sheffield will close this weekend as staff take industrial action. The sites in Deepcar and High Green will be shut as employees working for sub-contractor The Green Company strike over pay, conditions, and ‘bullying’ according to union GMB. Centres at Longley Avenue West, Beighton Road and Blackstock Road will open as normal. Staff are also set to go on an all-out strike from next Wednesday. A spokesman for Sheffield Council contractor Veolia, which sub-contracts The Green Company to run the sites, said: “The Green Company, the subcontractor that runs Sheffield’s five HWRCs, and the GMB have not yet been able to resolve their dispute. “However plans are in place meaning that the three largest HWRCs will be open over the weekend should strike action continue. “Deepcar and High Green HWRCs will not be open. “Veolia is continuing to support the Green Company and encouraging discussions so that issues can be resolved as quickly as possible.” Veolia said information about opening times during the all-out strike would be available nearer the time. The spokesman added: “Veolia will work closely with The Green Company so that sufficient recycling services can be provided to residents during this period.
